Job Title: Accounting Assistant
Hours of Work: Mon- Fri 9am-5pm
Rate of Pay: $17/hr

 

Summary

Reporting to Senior Accounting staff, under general supervision, the Accounting Assistant performs a variety of fiscal-accounting functions, prepares personal income tax returns for a variety of clients, and interacts with clients to gain an understanding of their issues and situations to ensure services are provided efficiently.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reporting to Senior Accounting staff, you will provide assistance with full cycle accounting
  • Assist accounting staff with data entry of financial information as assigned
  • Assist accounting staff with maintenance of electronic and physical records within function assuring compliance with organizational standards and audit requirements as required
  • Prepare personal and corporate tax returns for review by supervisor
  • Process full payroll cycle including processing payroll cheques, making payroll remittances, ROE’s, WSIB, EHT and annual T4 reporting
  • Assist clients at their location with clients and ensure communications are conducted in the highest professional manner
  • Use computer software to complete all cycles of clients’ bookkeeping including:
    • Accounts payable, account receivable, payroll support, including the review, coding and inputting of invoices, computer input of cash, payroll, receivable and payable functions
    • Prepare accurate bank reconciliations and deposits
    • Administer petty cash according to established procedures
    • Assist with year/end working paper files, with the intention to eventually complete work paper files independently
    • Complete other duties as required
  • Prepare personal income tax returns

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in general accounting

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency with related software applications (MS Office Suite, QuickBooks, Simply Accounting, Caseware and Profile Software)
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, with ability to apply knowledge to a wide variety of clients accounting requirements
  • Understand, interpret and apply financial reports from the accounting system
  • Maintain current knowledge of personal income tax laws
  • Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, payroll, personal income tax returns
  • Bank Reconciliations

  • Reception Relief
  • Other financial and/or administrative duties as required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of office management procedures and principles
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and in an open group setting
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Access to a reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license
  • Obtain a criminal record check
