Rate of Pay: $14/hr

Hours of Position: 30 per week

Number of Positions: 1

Own Transportation Required: yes

Start Date: Start Date June 25th, 2018. 9 week placement, 30 hours per week.

Reporting to the Shelter Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining effective animal care protocol and procedures. Essential functions include:

  • Feeding, bathing, grooming, exercising and care of animals
  • Administering medical treatments under the supervision and direction of the Shelter Manager, Registered Veterinary Technician, and/or Staff Veterinarian
  • Daily cleaning of animal housing areas
  • Assisting with enrichment of animals
  • Performing daily evaluations of animals
  • Cleaning of various areas of shelter facility
  • Ensuring that proper husbandry requirements of each animal are being met
  • Other duties as required for day to day operations


  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Must have been registered as a full time student during the preceding academic year and intend to return to school on a full time basis during the next academic year
  • Animal care experience and knowledge is an asset
  • Must be able to perform manual labour and lift 50lbs
  • Knowledge of disease transmission an asset
  • Must be comfortable working with and handling animals
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to adapt to a changing environment is an asset
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and use strong organizational and time management skills
  • Valid Ontario Glass G Driver’s license, clean driving record required
  • Employees will be required to work day and/or night shifts, must be reliable and able to work weekends
