Start Date: Start Date July 3rd, 2018. 8 week placement, 30 hours per week.

Reporting to the Shelter Services Supervisor, you will be responsible for maintaining effective customer service protocol and procedures. Essential functions include:

  • Adoption counseling and interviewing for potential adopters
  • Create adoption profile write-ups
  • Maintain awareness of current animal population
  • Educate potential adopters on various animal related topics
  • Enter client information into computer  software program and processing animal adoptions/intakes
  • Animal Surrender processing and counseling
  • Answer general inquiries about the HSDR and animal related topics
  • Communicate with foster parents and adopters
  • Various administrative tasks including answering phones, email correspondence and filing
  • Other tasks required in the day to day operation of the shelter



  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Must have been registered as a full time student during the preceding academic year and intend to return to school on a full time basis during the next academic year
  • Customer service experience and knowledge is an asset
  • Must be comfortable working with and handling animals
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to adapt to a changing environment is an asset
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to change using strong organizational and time management skills
  • Valid Ontario Glass G Driver’s license, clean driving record required
  • Employees will be required to work day and/or night shifts, must be reliable and able to work weekends
